Terrorists escape from custody

NEW DELHI: In what could be termed the first major security lapse of the New Year, three Pakistani terrorists escaped from Delhi police custody on Friday when they were being taken for a check up in a government hospital.Abdul Razzak, Mohammed Sadiq and Rafaqat Ali - who had completed their sentence for triggering blasts near the Red Fort in 2000 - were in the custody of the Special Branch of the Delhi police.
After a mandatory check up they were to be handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration office (FRRO) for deportation to Pakistan. The Delhi police is now preparing a fresh case against the escaped terrorists for violating the restraint order of the Foreigners Act, official sources said.They were arrested by the Delhi police for their involvement in the Red Fort terror attack plot along with 17 kg of RDX and 50 kg of heroin. This attack claimed three lives, including army men on December 22, 2000.
